Cuban Culture – Casino Dancing
Casino is a Cuban ballroom dance that emerged during the late 1950s due to the evolution and integration of other musical genres and modalities, such as the danzón and the danzonete. As a dance, it reflects greatly the character of the Cuban people and constitutes a synthesis of the characteristics of the Cubans; it is a summary of all the components of this nation.
Casino is considered the last ballroom dance created by the Cuban people. It came up like an anonymous dancing manifestation harbored in the cores of the urban popular classes. It is a dance to enjoy alone or in couples, it is not identified with any religious rites and its movements do not have particular meanings. The contemporary dynamic is reflected today in the great creativity and liberty of the dancers when choosing their corporal and spatial movements.
Nowadays, Casino dancing constitutes the ballroom dance with greater validity in Cuba, which adds more followers by the minute, and it is a socio-cultural event that has influenced directly the development, creativity, and diversity of the music that one can dance to in our country from the late 1950s up to the present. This give-and-take between popular music and ballroom dancing has been of the greater importance in order to satisfy the taste of the Cubans of “dancing nicely”; and above all, in order to maintain for several generations these two elements as the favorite ways of recreation and of socially relating among the different strata of society. Casino dancing is danced with greater or lesser skills by children, young people and adults in the most diverse spaces, no matter how large or limited.
This style has been danced with all the musical genres or variants in fashion that for its rhythmic structure or musical tempo permitted to perform the basic steps, which has allowed Casino dancing to stay alive in the taste of the dancers. Nevertheless, there are many elements that have contributed to the spreading of Casino in Cuba and abroad; the growing international popularity of Salsa music being among the most important. Identified as the Cuban way of dancing Salsa, Casino has become the ideal vehicle for enjoying this form of music, something not paradoxical at all if taken into account that the Cuban Son is the origin for both manifestations.
Young people and adults from different parts of the world have shown interest in learning how to dance Casino in the “same way Cubans do”; something quite complicated because the cubanía, of paramount importance to master this dance, is what Cubans convey with their gestures, attitudes, feelings, thoughts, and soul. In Cuba, rumor has it that one is born dancing Casino, so he or she who does not dance Casino is not a Cuban.

Why do black and latino people know nothing about politics?
Im wondering why blacks and latinos have no opinions on politics. All of them are just dont know anything about government and politics. Blacks only care about basketball and sometimes football. Lations only care about mexican soccer or crappy salsa music. On politics latinos care about is the illegal immigration thing thats about it. But blacks are totally clueless. Im not racist at all actually. I have black friends as well as hispanic friends. Actually i have dated a cuban girl before so that means, im not racist. so dont call me racist. Im trying to get more minorities to join the GOP.

First of all, you can’t use the word “all” because you don’t know that for a fact. There are plenty of people of different ethnic backgrounds in politics. Stating “all” only makes you look very ignorant.
Second of all, you ARE a racist – only a racist would point out the ethnic background of a girl he once dated. If you weren’t racist, then a woman would be a woman – no matter where her geneology took you. Sorry.
And besides, there are plenty of whites in politics that don’t know jack about politics either. So I think we’re all on common ground there!
