How to Make Your Sales Sheets Stand Out
Since sales sheets are designed to make a sale, you want to make sure that they are capturing the attention of the clients that will want your products or services. But just how can you achieve this goal? Here are some suggestions for making your sales sheets stand out and translate into revenues for your business.
Great Photography and Illustrations
Thanks to digital photography, there is no reason why you shouldn’t have a stunning image on your sales sheet. You want this image to grab the attention of the person reading it. If you are using multiple images, place the strongest one in the top half of the page. Using one large picture will achieve better results than several smaller ones. If you do use several smaller ones, place them together in one group or juxtapose a smaller one with a larger one. Remember, the more appealing the sales sheet is to look at, the more likely someone will be to pick it up and read it.
Strong Call for Action
Your sales sheet should always do two things – it should grab someone’s attention and it should have a defined call to action. Make sure that your headlines are catchy or confrontational. Keep your audience in mind and use “you” instead of “I” or “we” to make it more personal. Make sure that your message is clear. And always include a command of what the need to do, such as “Call now” or “Order Online Today.” Overall, your flyer should entice readers to take action when they see it.
Unified Fonts
Fonts can be a great way to emphasize certain parts of the sales sheet, but too many fonts create an unprofessional mumbo jumbo of lettering. Use no more than two fonts per sales sheet. If you need to create emphasis, keep the same font by using italics or bolding to make that point stand out, such as for quotes, captions, or calls to action. By limiting the number of fonts that you use, you will create a more professional looking finished product.
Paper Size
Most sales sheets will be a traditional paper size, such as 8.5” x 11”. However, you may find that your sales sheet will stand out a little more if you make it an odd size, such as slightly larger or smaller than others. Remember to consider your content and what you are trying to sell. Smaller sizes can work if you only have one product to sell, whereas a larger one can be more effective if you have an entire product family to include. Die cut sheet printing can be more expensive, but will look more impressive when you are handing them out.
Paper Type
While you may be tempted to use just standard copy paper to help save money, again you should consider your audience. In most cases, going with a higher quality gloss paper will help to lend a more professional image and make it less likely that your reader will casually toss it into the recycling bin.
At the same time you should consider your printing – while in theory you could print out sales sheets yourself, you will get a much more professional image by hiring a printing company to do the work for you.
